Marcas de calidad (DOP e IGP): Una ventana al mundo

¿Por qué es importante ampararse bajo una DOP? ¿Cuántas hay en España? ¿Qué acciones de comunicación o promoción llevan a cabo? Respondemos a estas y otras preguntas de la mano de varias marcas de calidad de aceite.

Según Aceites de Oliva de España, la Interprofesional del Aceite de Oliva Español (AOE), España cuenta con 32 DOP y 2 IGP, repartidas por todo el país. Amparadas bajo el paraguas de Denominación de Origen o Indicación Geográfica Protegida, los aceites cuentan con sellos de calidad distintivos de Europa y la garantía y protección de la Unión Europea.

¿Qué características garantizan estos sellos? AOE responde. “Garantizan que los alimentos que los han obtenido se han elaborado cumpliendo los máximos estándares de calidad” y además cuentan con unas características que los hacen únicos, “como unas variedades de aceituna determinadas, muy ligadas a un territorio bien delimitado o a una tradición asentada en el tiempo”.

La diferencia entre DOP e IGP, tal y cómo explican desde el MAPA, principalmente es que en la DOP todas las fases de producción se realizan en la zona geográfica definida, sin embargo, en un producto con IGP sólo es necesario que una de las fases se realice en la misma zona geográfica.

Lejos de ser meramente simbólico, estar amparado bajo una marca de calidad ofrece ventajas para las empresas y/o almazaras que deciden hacerlo. Nos cuentan sus experiencias.

DOP Aceite de Lucena, la más nueva

“Pertenecer a un sello de calidad hace que tu producto esté reconocido tanto en el mercado interior cómo el exterior”, afirma Patricia Caraballo de la DOP Aceite de Lucena. Además, de esta manera podemos ser partícipes de la promoción bajo las siglas DOP, “garantizando la calidad, el origen y la trazabilidad de nuestros productos”, confirma.

La DOP nació en 2015, aunque los trámites comenzaron en 2009. “es la DO cordobesa más reciente y nueva y cuenta con 7 almazaras/cooperativas inscritas”. Su variedad de oliva utilizada es la hojiblanca, pero, cuentan desde la DOP, que al ser 10 municipios los que forman la DO, las características de los AOVES dependen de su procedencia, algo que “los hace singulares”.
